On November 19, the Board of Trustees of Bard College, under advisement with the Board
of Overseers of Bard College at Simon’s Rock made the difficult, yet proactive decision
to relocate and consolidate its Great Barrington, MA campus and academic program effective
beginning fall 2025. The school will relocate to Bard College’s Massena Campus in
Barrytown, NY, a short distance from the Bard College campus in Annandale-on-Hudson,
NY. Despite decades of dedicated efforts to sustain the institution on its campus
in Great Barrington, MA, the college has not overcome declining enrollment and the
competitive market of early college offerings around the country. It is important
to note that this change is a relocation and consolidation. The essence of Simon’s
Rock’s mission to inspire the curiosity and creativity of motivated younger scholars
with a challenging, empowering, and inclusive education in the liberal arts and sciences
remains true, and will continue. Simon’s Rock is fortunate to be part of the global
Bard network and looks to the future with the new opportunities students will have
in connection with Bard College’s main campus.
Current students will continue their program of study and degree completion at the
new Massena campus. For students unable or unwilling to continue their studies at
the Massena campus, Simon’s Rock will assist with identifying suitable transfer options.
Applications for new students for fall 2025 are open and accepted students will study
at the new campus beginning in fall 2025.
More information about the consolidation can be found below.
